OCTOBER IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH — SAFE ADVOCATES FOR UNDERSERVED VICTIMS

BAKERSFIELD CA –  October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Stop Abuse for Everyone (SAFE) promotes that all victims of domestic violence should be provided services and assistance regardless of their gender, sexuality, or age. SAFE has a National Directory of Services for victims of intimate partner violence who have few services available to them; men, LGBT, teens, and the elderly.

According to the CDC’s statistics — estimates based on more than 18,000 telephone-survey responses in the United States — roughly 5,365,000 men had been victims of intimate partner physical violence in the previous 12 months, compared with 4,741,000 women.

Stop Abuse For Everyone (SAFE) previously released a video “Till Death Do Us Part” as a way to inform the public on the issue of domestic violence in regards to underserved victims.
  • More than 40% of domestic violence victims are male.
  • Bisexual women are 1.8 times more likely to report ever having experienced IPV than heterosexual women.
SAFE is a 501(c)(3), tax exempt, nonprofit organization. We work to enlighten communities on different types of issues individuals face that are often underrepresented.  Through our educational, media, and training programs, we inform the public and communities on what a healthy relationship should look like and what to do if they become a victim. SAFE fills in the gaps in domestic violence services.

SAFE offers information, resources, educational brochures, videos, articles, media campaigns, advocacy programs, campaigns, a Speakers Bureau, and a National Directory of Services.
