Community Outreach Intern Position
Reports to: VP of Operations
Role: Community Education & Outreach Coordination
Responsibilities:
- Community Education & Outreach Coordination: Plan and implement strategies for community education and outreach. Collaborate to create educational materials.
- Spokesperson Recruitment and Collaboration: Recruit and screen spokespersons in the local community and nationally. Assist with applications for new campaigns.
- Engagement and Networking: Build relationships with local and national organizations. Leverage social media, and networking, and partner with the local community on events, conference presentations, and outreach.
- Community Presentations: Schedule Zoom meetings and deliver presentations to build awareness and engagement.
- Marketing and Outreach Campaigns: Assist in creating marketing campaigns. Utilize digital platforms for community engagement. Identify opportunities for brand-building and marketing initiatives.
- Sponsorship and Funding: Collaborate with sponsors to secure funding for online events. Develop and maintain sponsorship relationships.
- Administrative Support: Maintain records, prepare reports, and assist with administrative tasks.
- Professional Development: Participate in training and professional development opportunities.
- Monitoring and Research: Monitor community issues, trends, and other factors that may impact program operations. Develop relationships with community members and leaders to position Family Reunion as an asset to the local community.
- Public Relations Collaboration: Work with the Public Relations Intern to promote upcoming events, campaigns, and speaking engagements.
Training Outcomes:
By the end of this training, interns will have learned to:
- Add real-world professional Community Outreach experience to their educational credentials.
- Improve their knowledge and skills in numerous aspects of Community Outreach.
- Compile a portfolio of completed assignments at the end of the internship.
- Participate as part of a team on shared assignments and projects.
- Work on strict deadlines.
- Build relationships through various networking channels.
- Utilize teamwork skills.
Internship Duration:
- Spring and Fall Programs: We have Spring, Fall, and Summer internship programs available. Upon completing the program, interns will receive a Certificate of Completion and a Letter of Recommendation. - Summer Program: Twelve weeks (21 to 35) hours/week. For students receiving academic credit hours are based on school requirements.
- Upon Completing the Program: Interns will receive a Certificate of Completion and a Letter of Recommendation
Eligibility:
- Open to students enrolled at any college or university or graduates seeking real-world experience.
- Must have an interest in Community Outreach.
College Credit:
- This is an unpaid internship.
- Some colleges and universities provide interns the opportunity to receive college credits (contact your professor or the Center for Career Education & Community Engagement) for more information.
Desired Skills:
- Knowledge of the local community and a strong local personal network.
- Professional demeanor when communicating with the public, colleagues, and networking contacts.
- Ability to work in a team environment while delivering independent results.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including persuasion and negotiation.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace.
- Experience with digital and social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Instagram).
- Familiarity with timely topics and media trends.
