” More than five million people in the United States are living with Alzheimer’s disease, according to the Alzheimer’s Association. They will experience symptoms that cause problems with their memory, thoughts, and behavior that get worse over time. Becoming forgetful can be incredibly hard on both the person living with Alzheimer’s and their loved ones. 

In an effort to help bring awareness to the disorder, Cut Video interviewed people ages 49 to 75 who live with Alzheimer’s. 

The interviewees were asked to share one of their first memories, but many of them had a hard time thinking of one. …”

“Suicide is among the leading causes of death in U.S. adolescents and while it’s not entirely preventable, doctors can minimize the risk by asking the right questions during routine checkups, the American Academy of Pediatrics says. 

Pediatricians should ask about mood disorders, use of drugs and alcohol, suicidal thoughts, bullying, sexual orientation and other risk factors for suicide as part of a routine conversation about medical history, the AAP notes in treatment guidelines released today. 

About 1,750 teens ages 15 to 19 killed themselves in 2013, Dr. Benjamin Shain writes in the journal Pediatrics. …”

And when we think of domestic violence, the female victim immediately comes to mind. It’s hard to wrap our heads around men suffering the same traumas, yet research shows men suffer domestic violence, too. Acccording to the Canadian Women’s Health Network, “there is ample evidence that both genders have capacity for violence…abusers and their victims come from all genders, races, classes, religions, and regions,” and even same-sex relationships. …”

Studies have shown students who have been bullied, bully, and observe bullying can have lower test grades, increased chances of depression, and even higher rates of substance abuse. In the United States, more than 3.2 million students are victims of bullying each year. 

Which makes the work of Rosie Dutton, a teacher in the U.K., all the more important. Earlier this week, the teacher made a Facebook post on her page Relax Kids Tamworth about a little experiment she ran with her students. Dutton stops at schools all over the country to kids about relaxation and mindfulness, but this week she touched on bullying. …”

‘I think it’s been harder on my dog than anything,’ Larry Crouse said.

For more than a year, Crouse’s AC unit in his Gladstone home has been on the fritz, but to fix it was just too much.

When it hit 100 degrees this week, his neighbor, Roger Henkemeyer, noticed Crouse had no AC running and just the windows raised. And he couldn’t sit back and worry any longer. …”
